Brisbane enjoys tourism boost

Bridgewater Terraces, Brisbane hotel accommodationThe demand for high quality Brisbane hotels and other types of accommodation continue to increase as the city becomes more and more popular holiday destination for both domestic and international visitors. People from both outside and inside Australia who are looking for a great place to relax find their way to Brisbane where they’ll enjoy spectacular natural sceneries, wide selection of outdoor activities, endless strip of shopping and dining districts, and a handful of cultural centres. And with Brisbane hotels from some of the largest accommodation chains in the word, your accommodation will only add to your holiday experience.

I mentioned that Brisbane hotels were in high demand due to the increase in visitors to Brisbane. Now, this is not a sales ploy from me to instil the a level or urgency for you to hurry up and book accommodation with us here at Bridgewater Terraces – this is a true statement that Brisbane hotels and accommodation owners like myself were delighted to hear. Let me give you some background on these claims. According to a report released by Travel Queensland, the number of domestic overnight and international overnight visitors to Brisbane has increased by 4.4% and 5.5%, respectively. While the number of domestic visitors reached 5,043,000, international visitors were at 981,000. Together, this represents a 3.4% tourism boost in Brisbane. Compared to other regions in Brisbane and other cities within Queensland, this is rather impressive.

According to the same report, interstate growth was driven by strong increase in the number of visitors coming from Darling Downs and Townsville. While interstate visitation remained stable, the number of people travelling to Brisbane to visit their friends and family members showed good growth, particularly from Melbourne and Sydney.

When it comes to international travel, it was China and United Kingdom that mostly drove the numbers up. Brisbane enjoyed 5.5% increase in overall international travel, which is slightly higher than the state growth average. While the number of visitors from China increased by an impressive 22.7%, UK visitors registered a solid 15% increase growth. Other source markets that showed growth include the United State, Taiwan, and Scandinavia.

Australia’s Tourism Forecast

It is a common knowledge that Brisbane is one of the absolute favourite holiday destinations by both international and domestic visitors and based on forecasts, the trend is more likely to continue. According to Tourism and Event Queensland, the Tourism Forecasting Committee (TFC) said that near term forecasts for international visitor arrivals was revised upward mainly because of strong arrivals last year. This year, they said that the outlook is very rosy and positive. Forecasts indicate that arrivals will increase by 4.3% to 6.5 million for 2013-14. Over the longer term, international visitors to Australia are forecasted to grow at an annual average rate of 3.5% until 2022. Strong growth is expected due to recovering global economy. This is certainly good news for Brisbane hotel operators as we have been doing it tough since the GFC.
