1. Brisbane International
If you’re a sports fan like I am, then attending the Brisbane International tennis tournament this January is a must.
Presented by SunCorp, this is the biggest tennis tournament leading up to the Australian Open. Attend and you’ll get to see your favourite international tennis stars in action, including the likes of Rafael Nadal.
I highly recommend that you add this event to your list of things to do in Brisbane this January.
The Brisbane International tennis tournament will be held from Sunday, January 1 to Sunday, January 8.
It is held at the Queensland Tennis Centre, which is located close to our holiday apartments at Bridgewater Terraces.
Entry tickets for this tournament range from $32-$44 and you can also avail of a group pass for $20 per head.
2. BBL – Brisbane Heat Vs. Melbourne Renegades
I’m sure you’re aware of the KFC Big Bash League – Australia’s biggest T20 tournament which features both international stars and local talent.
If you’re holidaying in Brisbane this January, you’ll get to watch the home team, Brisbane Heat take on the Melbourne Renegades.
While you’ll witness thrilling cricket live, you’ll also be in the middle of a fantastic atmosphere as crowds will cheer for the home team.
This promises to be one electrifying event which you must add to your itinerary of things to do in Brisbane.
This BBL game will be held on Friday, January 20 from 6:45pm-9:45pm at the Brisbane Cricket Ground (the Gabba).
Single tickets for the game are priced between $8-$38 and family tickets from $12-$30.

3. Matilda the Musical
If you’re anything like my wife, then you must be fond of musicals. If that’s the case, then you should definitely attend Matilda the Musical in Brisbane this January.
Presented by the Royal Shakespeare Company, this family-friendly musical has won 70 international awards, so you know the entire family will love it.
Matilda the Musical will be held on the 1st, 4th-8th, 11th-15th, 18th-22nd, 25th-26th and 28th-29th January at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre.
Tickets for this musical cost $55-$175.

4. St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival
St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival is a one-of-a-kind party which features live performances by several international and domestic musical artists.
This is the 13th edition of this festival which will draw in crowds from all over Australia.
If you’re as fond of live music as I am, I’m sure you’ll consider adding this great festival to your list of things to do in Brisbane.
St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival will take place on Thursday, January 26 at the Brisbane Showgrounds from 8:00am onwards.

5. Australia Day on Bribie
Australia Day is always celebrated with great enthusiasm. If you’re holidaying in Brisbane this January, then Bribie Island is the place to be this Australia Day.
‘Australia Day on Bribie’ is a wonderful, family-friendly event which will feature Aussie day games, amazing food and plenty of enjoyable activates. Certainly, an event which must feature on your list of things to do in Brisbane.
Australia Day will be celebrated on Bribie Island at Brennan Park on Thursday, January 26 from 7:30am-8:00pm.
This event is completely free for everyone to attend, and you’ll even score a free breakfast.
