There is certainly no shortage of serviced apartments in Brisbane. Such apartments are great for both weekend getaway and longer holidays, but more so true for longer stays. While its convenient to take off for one or two nights over the weekend, a growing number of Australia’s are choosing to have longer holidays. In fact, according to Roy Morgan Research Holiday Tracking Survey, more than 25% of Australia’s spent 3-7 nights away on their last holiday and a further 18% spent more than 7 nights away.
So, with just under 50% of all holiday makers choosing to take longer holidays, it is evident that there is a growing need for apartment based accommodation. This brings me to my question – do you love or loathe serviced apartments?
Given that I managed serviced apartments in Brisbane, you might call me biased. But, in this post, I will be as honest as I can and list reasons why you might love or loathe them. After you read through, you can decide on whether you should book a serviced apartment for your next Brisbane holiday.
Reasons to love serviced apartments
At Bridgewater Terraces, our guests obviously prefer serviced apartments in Brisbane over hotels. There are several reasons behind this – let’s take a look at them.
First of all, guests love serviced apartments because they far cheaper than a hotel. While cost savings may not be significant for weekend getaways, over longer stays the savings can be considerable.
Moreover, serviced apartments offer far more space than standard hotel rooms in Brisbane. Serviced apartments, including ours, consist of separate bedrooms and bathrooms, living and dining spaces, a kitchen and a usually contain a balcony. They give guests all the privacy and space that they need. They can cook their own meals and do their own laundry. This again leads to good cost savings.
Additionally, many think serviced apartments in Brisbane are inferior to hotels in terms of amenities and facilities. But this is quite far from the truth. Serviced apartments usually offer amenities and facilities on par (if not better) than what most hotels offer. At Bridgewater Terraces, our apartments are fully furnished and include Wi-Fi (paid), entertainment systems and more. When guests in our apartments, they can also enjoy resort facilities. These include a swimming pool, spa and sauna, gym, BBQ areas, free parking and much more!
While serviced apartments offer fantastic value for money, they are also highly flexible. Guests can use an apartment for business travel, or to indulge in a leisurely holiday. Staying in a serviced apartment also enables guests to live more like a local – making for a truly unique holiday experience.
Reasons to loathe serviced apartments
I’ve never had guests complain about our serviced apartments in Brisbane but I do acknowledge that some people loathe them. Let’s take a look at some reasons why serviced apartments may not be the preferred option.
The first thing that comes to my mind is the lack of time saving services. Hotels offer excellent on-site services so there is always someone to take care of things for guests. This is one thing guests of a services apartment cannot expect – they have to take care of most things on their own. While guests can certainly call the manager for help, they shouldn’t expect help to be readily available.
Another drawback with serviced apartments is that guests have to keep the apartment clean themselves. Yes, housekeeping services will be offered – but housekeeping will only drop by once in 7-10 days.
Also, serviced apartments usually lack a 24-hour concierge and do not have the same flair that a hotel offers. That being said, at Bridgewater Terraces, our apartments rival the charm that hotels offer.
Finally, there is always some uncertainty associated with little things in a serviced apartment. For instance, if guests run out of soap or shampoo, they have no choice but to head out and get supplies. This can be inconvenient for some people.
Conclusion:
When it comes to serviced apartments in Brisbane, I’ve realised that some people love them while others loathe them. While there are several reasons to love or loathe them, the fact of the matter is, serviced apartments offer better value for money over longer stays.
