Brisbane Southbank: A Day of Family Fun, Shopping, and Culture

You may ask yourself, “Is there a free place for entertainment in Brisbane?” The answer is yes! In fact, there are a lot. But you may start your trip with a little stroll—or a bike ride—to the Southbank Precinct.

Southbank Precinct can be toured in one day, and every minute doesn’t go to waste, as there are far too many fabulous places you can check out. For example, this district is well-known for its artist centers. Almost everywhere you go there’s a gallery that offers something new to your eyesight. To give you some ideas, you can visit Queensland Art Gallery, which has more than 10,000 collections, and Queensland Gallery of Modern Art.

If you love the opera, you can check out the performance schedules in Opera Queensland. You may also catch concerts from budding musicians in the conservatory of Griffith University in Grey Street. If you wish to expand your knowledge and learn more about South Bank, take a look at the memorabilia in Queensland Museum.

The 17-hectare Southbank Parklands never runs out of people and is open 24/7. It plays hosts to countless events, both public and private. You can rent a bike or take a walk with your dog, hopefully on a leash. Of course, it’s very near South Bank where you can enjoy a moment of swim. There are several playgrounds for the children and parents’ room. It’s not uncommon to see people in their skateboards too.

The parklands also has the Arbour, which is a horticultural masterpiece, and the lifestyle markets from Fridays to Sundays. You can set up a picnic and grill barbecues. There are facilities that are ready to use for that. Get a 360-degree view of the city with a twist. Ride the Wheels of Brisbane, which is good for 15 minutes. If you wish to visit the city, you can walk the Goodwill Bridge, which spans around 500 meters. It also leads you to Brisbane’s botanic gardens.

A trip to Southbank will never be complete without food and a little window-shopping. The ideal place to be is the Little Stanley Street. It offers a wide variety of restaurants, cafes, and bistros, serving all sorts of cuisines that will surely appeal to your appetite.
