A trip to Brisbane cannot be complete without seeing the winding Brisbane River that makes its way across the city metropolis. After all, the Brisbane River is the lifeblood of our city, which links together several inner-city precincts. Moreover, the Brisbane River is also the backdrop for a range of attractions, outdoor adventures and dining options.
As a Brisbane local, let me tell you that there are several ways to enjoy the views of our city and the Brisbane River. Today, I will list some of my favourites.
1. Go on a river cruise
One of the best ways to experience the charm of the historical Brisbane River is by going on a leisurely river cruise. You’ll find several river cruises across different terminals on the Brisbane River, and every cruise will take you past iconic buildings, grand houses, luscious gardens and the majestic city skyline.
A round trip across the Brisbane River without any stops will only take you 90 minutes. However, to truly enjoy the experience, I highly recommend you take advantage of the different stops and stretch your legs a little.
2. Dine by the river
There’s no better way to appreciate the beauty of the Brisbane River than with some fine food and wine. Thankfully, you can choose from plenty of fine dining options along the riverside.
To taste some award-winning food, head over to Aqualinea in Tenerife, where you can have fresh seafood and wine. If you’re looking for a more upscale experience, drop by Black Bird Bar & Grill at Eagle Street Pier, where you’ll find delicious specialty steaks and unconventional cocktails. And, for a riverside restaurant that offers a little bit of everything, visit the iconic Customs House on Queen Street.
3. Climb the Story Bridge
Climbing the Story Bridge will treat you to arguably the most majestic views of the Brisbane city skyline. The iconic Story Bridge offers an 80m climb to the summit, showcasing a fascinating side of the city metropolis.
Guided climbing tours are arranged at dawn, dusk and night every day at the Story Bridge. Climbing the Story Bridge takes about 2 hours, and it is suitable for people of all ages. Make sure to add the Story Bridge Climb to your holiday itinerary.
4. Stay in accommodation on the Brisbane River
Finally, one of the simplest ways to enjoy the views of Brisbane City and the river is by choosing riverside accommodation, such as our holiday apartments here at Bridgewater Terraces. We offer a range of serviced 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom or 3 bedroom holiday apartments in Kangaroo Point, located on the banks of the Brisbane River.
